RYUZU HAMMERED

A distinctive finish, one hammer strike at a time.

RYUZU follows the technique of “hammered finish” made from an ancient silver device, striking metal at point by hammer, and forming a bulge by exercise.

The Japanese term for this finish can be written 槌目 or 鎚目. RYUZU uses 鎚目, written with the character for a metal hammer, to reflect how each mark is made.

The hammer marks are more than decoration. Light and shadow shift with the viewing angle, giving the simple band depth and character.

Each ring is hammered by hand, so the pattern varies from piece to piece.
